“Operation Red-Shirt” is a Tucson-based initiative to send military kids, whose parents are deployed overseas, to Girl Scout’s camp. A rally was held at Salpointe High School in Tucson to send the kids off on their week-long camping adventure. Several hundred supporters gathered on the football field to form a heart of Red-Shirts, with several civic and veterans groups in attendance. The VFW was represented by Department Commander Betty Gripp and Auxiliary Department Secretary Kim Sloan.

“Operation Red-Shirt” was itself inspired by “Operation Purple”, which are camps sponsored by the National Military Family Association.
