Jerry Pujat, Arizona’s Chairman of Operation Up-Link Phone Card Program, along with Jon Pielter, his Co-Chairman, had the pleasure of going to a well planned fundraiser for the VFW’s Operation Up-Link Phone Card Program held on November 17th, 2007. Don Underwood, of VFW Post 9401, put this vast program together getting the different fraternal organizations together to put on this 7 hour picnic with food, games for the children, and live entertainment from 5 bands.
The event started with a very moving Flag Retirement Ceremony at 10:00 AM.
Comrade Pujat was interviewed by Bill Boyer, Digital Video Specialists, Havasu Hot Air TV station about the program and how it is so beneficial to hospitalized Veterans and active duty Troops of our Armed Forces.
Some of the organizations participating were: VFW Post 9401 & its auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, the Elks & their auxiliary, the Moose & their auxiliary, the Shiners’ and their auxiliary, the Marine Corps League & their auxiliary, and the Knights of Columbus and their auxiliary all of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Well over 1,000 lunches were served with all the food donated by different merchants. Donations from the different merchants were also for liquor baskets, fruit baskets, trips, motorcycle bike, and other drawings. Congratulations to VFW Post 9401 who sponsored the event.
Plans for next might be for county or even a state wide event. By far this is the biggest event ever held in Arizona to help fund the Operation Up-Link Phone Card Program. Congratulations to all for their fine work in helping those who SERVE keep in contact with those who CARE. Total money raised yet has not been totaled up yet but it is a sure bet that it will far exceed the amount of $4,500 raised last year. So far the amount is $18,632 and counting!
