DAD’S-DAY PROJECT
Article and Photos by Alan Edwards

The “Dad’s-Day Project” was designed for military kids to construct their own personal Fathers’ Day Card. Organized by the Veterans and Family Support (VFS) committee (which is composed of military Family Resource Groups (FRGs) and other veteran groups in the area, including the VFW); the event was sponsored by VFW District-5 and hosted by VFW Post-10188 in Tucson. All materials needed to make greeting cards, including lunch of hot dogs and refreshments, were provided by the VFW Auxiliary. A picture-booth, with all materials needed to provide personal photographs, was donated by the “Photo Fun Booth” of Tucson.

An actual head-count of kids attending was not taken, as they appeared and left over the event’s three-hour time slot; but the guys at the ‘Photo-Fun-Booth’ said they stopped counting after taking 100 pictures. And no one knows how many cards were actually constructed, as the kids were encouraged to make as many cards as they wished. The group also made cards that will be sent to servicemen overseas in care packages.

This ‘project’ was a grand idea. There are going to be a lot of happy Dad’s on Fathers-Day, as most of the cards were really creative.

Shown is the picture booth donated by the “Photo Fun Booth” of Tucson. Each family was provided a set of four pictures, which were then separated and affixed to Father’s Day cards made by the kids.
