The Casas Adobes VFW Post and Auxiliary 10188 Veterans and Family
Support (VFS) planning committee is in the process of
planning a “2007 Freedom Walk” in Tucson; a candlelight ceremony on
9/11/2007. The VFS

committee is composed of VFW and Auxiliary-10188
members, Military Family Resource Groups (FRGs) and community
organizations. This committee plans activities in support of
military families and liaises with other veteran support groups;
such as ‘Blue Star Mothers, the Red Cross, and ‘Operation Military
Kids’. VFW District-5 Posts and Auxiliaries participate in these
events.
“Freedom
Walk” began in 2005 to honor lives lost at the Pentagon on
9/11/2001. This idea, originating with Department of Defense (DOD)
employees, received overwhelming support across America. In 2006
Freedom-Walks occurred in 130 cities in all 50 states. More details
about ‘Freedom-Walk’ is available at the DOD-supported website:
www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil
The
VFS committee has already hosted a number of family events,
including an Easter Egg Hunt; celebration of both Mothers and
Fathers Day and a July 4th family picnic. In addition to the
‘Freedom Walk’, the VFS committee is planning a patriotic rally in
October.
More
Details about VFS Committee plans can be provided by the VFS Chair,
Kim Sloan.
