VFW District-5 Members and Auxiliary members teamed with Bashas’ Food Store, at River and La Chola in Tucson, to sponsor a “Support Our Troops” fund drive. Shoppers were greeted at both store entrances by VFW members offering lemonade and cupcakes, and given a flyer providing a ‘Wish-List’ of items for Troop Care Packages. Inside the store shoppers couldn’t avoid the flyers; as Bashas’ Director Tom Roylston and Florist Manager Diane Larson had posted several copies of the flyers along each aisle. Nonetheless, some shoppers opted to simply donate money rather than goods. The younger shoppers seemed to prefer the cupcakes, while the older shoppers often choose lemonade; but everyone was very friendly and supportive. All in all this was one of those really feel-good days; and, thanks to Bashas’ support, a very successful fund drive by Members and Auxiliary of VFW District-5.
