VFW Post 549 75th Anniversary Banquet
Article
and photos by Alan Edwards
It was a glorious evening in Tucson, where comrades, sisters and
guests gathered to attend a banquet celebrating the 75th
Anniversary of VFW Post-549. Quite a number of Department, District
and Post officers and members, both VFW and Auxiliary, joined in
congratulating VFW-549 and its Ladies Auxiliary for their 75 years
of service to veterans and community affairs.
Highlight of the evening was an entertaining slideshow
of activities sponsored by Post-549 over the years, and a delicious
dinner served by AFROTC cadets from the University of Arizona. Post
Commander E Wendell Hague read a proclamation from the City
of Tucson, and Department Commander Betty Gripp presented a
‘Diamond Jubilee’ certificate to Post-549 members. Emcee and Keynote
speaker PDC/CinC Bob Curio entertained the audience with his
humor as emcee, and highlighted a history of Post-549 activities in
his keynote speech. After Auxiliary-549 President Mary ‘Ronnie’
Heinemann and Commander E. Wendell Hague cut a
cake celebrating the event, everyone retired to the lounge to enjoy
an evening of socializing and dancing.
This was a really grand event and everyone, including
the kids, departed in good humor with smiles on their faces.
